Yiradhu marang, I’m Dearne, an indigenous bundadhaany (artist) living on Darug nation Sydney, NSW Australia. I was born on Wallumedegal land and a proud Wiradjuri woman. I am the youngest of 3 and was raised by mother who is from the stolen generation.
I too am a mother of 3 beautiful children and currently work full-time as an Aboriginal Health professional, with intention that one day I will primarily focus on my art.
Art has always been my passion in all its creativity. It was and still is my way of expressing my feelings, sharing stories and honouring my culture. I am very blessed to have been taught by my Aunts and Uncles so that traditions can be passed on for many generations to come.
Art is magical to gaze upon no matter what masterpiece is created. I admire how art can be transformed through many different mediums and methods. There is something for everyone to interpret, admire and evoke joy.
Through my art, I hope to promote truth-telling, share stories of our culture, and hope to inspire others to embrace the Aboriginal culture and their own culture.
