The Indigenous Art Code of Conduct

The Indigenous Art Code of Conduct

The Indigenous Art Code of Conduct (the Code) is a voluntary industry code of conduct administered by the Indigenous Art Code Ltd (IartC).

Developed by the Indigenous visual arts industry and launched in 2009, the Code is a document that sets best practice standards for fair, transparent and ethical trade with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and their art.

Dealer Members of IartC become signatories to the Code. They are Indigenous or non-Indigenous owned businesses that have provided information through the membership application process to demonstrate their compliance with the Code. Applicants are often required to make changes to their business practices to meet its standards.

Dealer Members are required to renew their commitment to the Code and their membership annually.
