Council of the City of Gold Coast - Arts and Culture Unit

Yeien is a word from the surrounding Yugambeh language groups, meaning 'Go with the Rising Tide'. Through a series of consultations with the Best Family, permission was granted for the use of the name Yeien. The name was previously used by the City of Gold Coast Arts and Culture unit, paying homage to those living on Yugambeh country and acknowledging the trad and exchange of First Nations art and its enduring cultural importance.

The City of Gold Coast Arts and Culture Unit provides ongoing opportunities and support for artists living in the Yugambeh language speaking region, Through strong partnerships and meaningful relationship -building, the City continues to strengthen community connections while empowering and sustaining the growth of the art sector. The Arts and Culture unit work closely with First Nations artists, art workers and organisations to ensure respectful, ethical and culturally informed engagement with communities across region. This foundation supports all areas of our programming.
