Lisa Sorbie Martin: First Nations Artist, Designer, Curator, Consultant and Cultural Educator.

Sorbie or Lisa known by most, is of Torres Strait Island descent from Mua Island and Mer Island. Her namesake Grandmother ‘Sorbie’ was named after the Sorbie fruit, a ‘Wild Water Cherry’ or ‘Bell Fruit’ that grows on the beautiful islands where her families originate from.

Lisa and her family live on Country with the ‘People of the Yugambeh Language Region and Koombermerri Peoples’. Her art making is predominately in visual art, textile design, wearable art, ceramics, and public art.

She is a creative innovator threading culture and art together to produce and tell stories in any community that is site-specific and thought provoking. Sorbie’s passion and inspiration comes from her family, faith, culture, and the magnificent world we live in.
