Born and raised on Kalkutungu Country in Mount Isa, North-West Queensland, Seleena is a
practitioner of Kalkutungu culture, art, history and dance. Now residing on Yuggera and Turrbal Country in Brisbane, Seleena uses her art as a way to remain connected to her culture while living off Country.
Seleena’s passion for art comes from her mother Sheree Blackley, who is an established artist of more
than 20 years. Learning everything she knows from her mum, from a young age Seleena fell in love with
many different mediums and styles but always come back to acrylic on canvas.
Seleena’s artistic expression is channelled through her cultural identity as Ngarlingarli (meaning rock
wallaby in Kalkutungu and Seleena’s totem). Seleena has created works for different sectors, both non-government and government organisations. She is also passionate about teaching and has led many cultural art workshops for local groups in Mount Isa.
