Warmun Art Centre
The Heart & Soul of Gija culture
In the heart of the East Kimberley, WA, where the stunning beauty of the Bungle Bungles meets the rugged Gibbs Ranges, Warmun Art Centre stands as a vibrant cultural sanctuary on Gija Country. Surrounded by the timeless splendour of ancient boab trees and majestic geological formations, the Centre is home to more than 60 artists spanning five generations, from ages 10 to 92. Together, they weave ancestral traditions with contemporary innovation.
The gallery walls resonate with the energy of Dreamtime, reflecting the profound and enduring connections between Country, culture, and community. Revered worldwide, our artists have made Gija art a powerful symbol of strength, brilliance, and cultural pride. Their works are held in prestigious collections across Australia and around the globe, positioning Warmun Art Centre as one of remote Australia’s most significant cultural institutions and a leader on the international art stage. Our artists, both established and emerging, are among Australia’s most celebrated practitioners, creating striking contemporary works using traditional natural ochres sourced from Gija Country and the East Kimberley region. Their art continues to be collected and exhibited by leading institutions nationally and internationally.
As a 100% community owned and community led organisation, Warmun Art Centre is a hub of artistic excellence, a cultural stronghold, and a beacon of Gija self-determination. It is the heart & soul of Gija people and culture, and a dynamic two-way educational centre sharing powerful stories and artworks that honour the landscapes, spirit, and enduring legacy of the Gija people, Culture & their land.
